About

Welcome! My name is Ellen and after living in Connecticut for 20 years, my husband and I moved to South Carolina. I garden from the heart; I love: digging, planting, watering, pruning, pushing wheelbarrows, hauling weeds, and getting dirty. Gardening has taught me patience and it has taught me to have a sense of wonder, seeing beauty in all of nature. Iย garden because it feeds my soul; working in the garden calms me; the fresh air, the warmth of the sun on my face, morning birdsong, observing what plants need me most that day; all of these things bring me joy. The title of my blog is: Always the Garden; I do digress from time to time and write on other topics dear to my heart.

  4. Hi Ellen – that is quite a change, from Arizona to Connecticut! I have a friend who moved from DC to Arizona and had to re-learn gardening in reverse. I love the SouthWest but I always enjoy coming back to the green hills of home… thank you so much for visiting and deciding to follow Beauty Along the Road.

  5. Hi Ellen,
Thanks for stopping by my blog. I’m a gardening fan too, but currently only have a roof deck in Brooklyn. Everything we grow must be in pots. It’s still such a pleasure, and I do focus on perennials too. This year a couple things seemed like they didn’t survive the winter, but it just took them a few extra weeks than the others to show any signs of life. I’m going to mulch them asap now!

  6. Hi Ellen, let me start with a confession. I do not like gardening, have always hated it and tend to kill everything I touch. My father absolutely loved it though. Said it was his escape from the stresses of the world and that he loved to see the tangible results of his work. He was my hero and I am very much like him in every other way but this ๐Ÿ˜. That said, I must tell you that you have a wonderful way with words and that despite our obvious disconnect in this one area I’ve thoroughly enjoyed browsing your posts and reading your thoughts. I look forward to seeing more of your posts in the new year. All the best to you and yours!

    • Hi Tina,
I hope you don’t kill everything you touch.(just kidding) ๐Ÿ™‚
Thank-you for your kind words about my blog. I started my blog a few months ago and I’m not sure where it is headed. I just have to let it lead me. I love my gardens, but also love photography and writing. The next WordPress photography 101 class will be in Spring and I’m going to sign up. Your post is a breath of fresh air; your photographs and beautiful words inspire me.

      • Hi Ellen,
No problem at all, I know awards aren’t something everyone wants to participate in and I respect that. I enjoy reading your posts and shall continue to do so.
        Take care,
